Playing a trading card game is a very expensive hobby. You have to spend a lot of money to build a deck you like but the meta changes, and you would need to update your deck every now and then to stay ahead of the competition. So we compiled the best colors for future-proof decks in the One Piece Card Game.
What’s the best color to play with future-proof decks?
Red

Red is the most played color at the moment due to the strength of Zoro. As of now, Zoro is considered the leader to beat in any tournament and has far proved it to be true. Red is a strong contender in OP-01, both in Asia and Global versions, but Zoro decks became a level above the competition when OP-02 was released in Asia, and we believe the same will happen all over the world.
Although this is an expensive deck, it will only require very minimal changes in OP-02. Players will just have to take out the Luffy, Sanji, Shanks, and other event cards aside from Jet Pistol, and it’s good to go. Some players also took out all their Choppers but it’s really up to your preference.

These cards will be replaced by Whitebeard, Vista, Makino, and Dadan. You also need to add full sets of Sunny and Gordon when promo packs are more available.

Green
Green’s transition from OP-01 to OP-02 is a roller coaster ride. There’s a point in time in the Asian meta that Kid fell off the radar, but it somehow managed to find its way to the top again. However, Kid is not the only leader you can use in OP-02. Kin’emon is also considered one of the top three leaders at the moment by many, so green players got the choice to either stick with Kidd or move to Kin’emon.
If you decide to stick with Kidd, you’ll only add and find room for Yamato and, if you prefer, Shachi. These cards will just replace the blocker Kid.

If you want to switch to Kin’emon, the base cards will be pretty much the same. You can cut some Killer, Cat Viper, Law, and Hawkins to make room for Yamato and Oden.

Purple
Purple is the most stable deck during the transition from OP-01 to OP-02 because the initial version of the deck didn’t change. Players did add some OP-02 cards like Magellan, Sadi, Shiki, and Hell’s Judgment, but the old build will work just fine. There’s even a deck that made it to the Top 8 of the Asia Championship, with the only card coming from OP-02 being Shiki.

Things might not be the same in the Global version because ST-05 is not yet released, but if you manage to get your hands on ST-05 and want to include some cards, you just need to cut some Kaido cards, Fukorokuju and Basil Hawkins to make room for Bullet and Shiki.

What about Blue?

Blue is the deck that will change the most. If what happened in the Asian meta will also happen in the Global meta, Doflamingo and Crocodile will fall out of the meta and be replaced by Ivankov.

The Ivankov deck is full of OP-02 cards, with only Perona, Doflamingo (blocker), Alvida, and Mihawk retained from OP-01.
So if you’re planning to build a deck, you can consider getting Red, Green, and Purple, as these are the colors with minimal changes once OP-02 hits. Please note that everything is based on what we’ve experienced here in Asia, and things might be different in the Global version.
