More than 1200 players battled it out for the first-ever Championship 2023 leg with OP06 cards, and as the dust was settled, WKT, with his Green-Yellow Yamato, reigned supreme.
The new set has officially shaken down the meta, and we have crowned a new champion after months of Sakazuki dominance. Surprisingly, no Sakazuki player made it to the top 4, dethroning Sakazuki as the best deck in the format. The top 4 of the recent CS saw Katakuri, Yamato, Moria, and the returning king, Whitebeard.
In the semi-finals, we saw the Whitebeard, played by Mingo, take down Katakuri with complete dominance, as the Yellow player’s lack of counters in the early game spelled his demise. Katakuri tried to turn the tables around with a 14,000 all-in attack, but Whitebeard managed to survive. Whitebeard then finished the game with a plethora of attacks despite the Katakuri player triggering an Amaru to add one more life.
In the finals, it was a textbook Yamato (WKT) versus Whitebeard (Mingo) where WKT focused on controlling the board while letting his opponent deplete his life. Things turned for the worse for the Mingo when he missed a Nami search during his 7-don turn. That made him more defensive on his leader than his Luffy, as he doesn’t have a second copy of Radical Beam in his arsenal. Mingo failed to make a lethal turn against WKT with a final Zoro attack. Mingo surrendered the game after realizing he didn’t have enough counters to defend against the coming attacks from WKT.
